Wellspring Oncology

New Patients

Welcome to WellSpring Oncology. Our goal is to guide you gently through the process of dealing with cancer. Our staff will answer any of your questions.

What to Expect the First DayPatient Consultation

Most patients are not treated on the first day, so relax. The WellSpring staff will greet you and give you a tour of our facility if you’d like. Your nurse and doctor will review your medical history and give you an exam. They will review all the relevant studies for your case and determine if any additional studies or scans are necessary, at which time these appointments will be scheduled. If your treatment involves radiation, a “simulation” will be performed.

A “simulation” is a series of CT scans that give our staff a multi-dimensional view of your body. These are performed while you lay on an exam table as the scan arm rotates around your body. You will feel no pain and suffer no side effects from this treatment. It’s much like an x-ray.

Our physicians and technical staff will use these CT images (sometimes combined with MRI or PET scans) to develop a treatment plan that will provide the best technique to target the tumor and minimize side effects.

The doctor will review the plan for your treatment and schedule the necessary appointments. Generally, the actual treatment will begin about one week after the simulation.
