Case Study for Breast Cancer Treatment
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and is expected to affect 13 percent of the female population or one in every eight women.
Most breast cancers are invasive (or infiltrating ) ductal carcinoma. The seriousness of the cancer is based on the size of the tumor, the grade of the cancer (how mutated the cells are) whether the cancer is sensitive to hormone therapy (estrogen receptors) and the status of the lymph nodes.
WellSpring brings hope and excitement to women with breast cancer – treatment options vary to fight this complex mix of cells in each individual cancer but one treatment can be done in five days at WellSpring.
Using more sophisticated IMRT techniques, it is possible to treat the whole breast with increasing safety, and by using accelerated partial breast irradiation (e.g., Mammosite), it may be possible to complete the radiation in five days rather than six weeks.
